Description:
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB: The Service Coordinator for the First Steps Early Intervention Program works closely with children ages birth to 3 with developmental disabilities, their families, and service providers. The Service Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining service plans and working within the Missouri First Steps WebSPOE website. ***ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS*** Are you passionate about supporting young children and families? Do you have strong organizational skills, enjoy collaborating with professionals, and want to make a meaningful difference in early childhood development? If so, the role of a First Steps Service Coordinator may be a great fit for you. First Steps is Missouri’s early intervention program for infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) who have developmental delays or disabilities. As a Service Coordinator, you will work closely with families to guide them through the process of accessing early intervention services. This includes managing a caseload of children and families, coordinating developmental evaluations, and facilitating the creation of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) based on each family’s priorities. You will ensure services begin on time and are delivered according to the plan, while also maintaining accurate and timely records in the state’s online system. The role requires leading and documenting meetings, maintaining ongoing communication with families, and collaborating with therapists and providers using a team-based, family-centered approach. You will also submit requests for assistive technology, support families through the program exit process, and mentor new staff as needed. Candidates should have experience or education in social work, early childhood, or a related field, and possess strong communication, documentation, and time management skills. You must be comfortable using technology, including virtual meetings and electronic record systems, and be able to work independently while adhering to timelines and compliance requirements. A valid Missouri driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a willingness to travel within the assigned region are required. You must also have reliable high-speed internet to work remotely, as equipment will be provided. This position requires strict confidentiality, adherence to ethical guidelines, and participation in required staff meetings, trainings, and outreach events. If you are compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to helping families thrive, we encourage you to apply. ***KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*** This position requires general knowledge in a related field such as social work, psychology, special education, counseling, or early childhood development. Candidates should have an introductory understanding of case management methods, principles, and techniques, as well as familiarity with developmental disabilities or early childhood concerns and the services available to address them. A basic knowledge of interviewing strategies and techniques is also important. The ability to manage a caseload of children with developmental delays is essential, including keeping Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) current and maintaining accurate, up-to-date records. Candidates must be capable of developing IFSPs that meet Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) standards and collaborating with a team to make decisions about a child’s plan of care. This role requires the ability to enter and upload documents into the WebSPOE data system in a timely and accurate manner. Strong problem-solving skills are needed to assess and respond to crisis situations and resolve conflicts in a positive, healthy way. Applicants should be punctual, present a positive image of Abilities First to the public, and demonstrate the ability to recognize and report potential abuse or neglect in accordance with regulatory requirements. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as is the ability to establish productive working relationships with colleagues and families. The role demands a high level of ethics, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while maintaining communication with the SPOE Director regarding any concerns or developments that may affect service delivery. Timely communication is important, with the expectation of returning phone calls and emails within 24 hours. Professional dress or business casual attire is required in the office and during meetings. The physical requirements include light lifting up to 35 pounds and the ability to sit for extended periods, including two-hour meetings.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a DESE approved degree and 1 year documented experience working with families: Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Special Education, Child /Human Development, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Education Administration, Sociology, Family Science/Studies, Counseling, or bachelor’s degree or higher with three years of documented experience working with families and young children. Must have secure and reliable high-speed internet to work remotely. Must be able to drive for work-related assignments. Must be able to pass a background screening.
