Family Devotional

"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."  - Proverbs 16:24

A little encouragement can go a long way! As we start a new year, try to encourage your friends and family as they work toward their new goals and resolutions!

When was the last time someone said something encouraging to you? How did it make you feel? Maybe you had a rough day, and someone complimented your outfit to boost your confidence. Or perhaps a friend noticed that you were discouraged and reminded you of how awesome you are! Life is full of challenges that can bring you down. But a gracious word from someone can instantly lift our spirits.

Receiving encouragement does wonders for our hearts. It gives us hope and pushes us to keep going! Encouragement reminds us that we are seen, loved and valued.  King Solomon even compared pleasant words to the sweetness of honey, the purest form of sugar available during biblical times.

You have the power to remind a friend of her unique beauty when she is feeling shy or insecure. If your brother is trying to be kinder to others, you can let him know that you've seen a difference in his behavior. Encouragement is a powerful tool that we can use to strengthen those around us. It builds up the people we love.

Saying a kind word to someone costs you nothing, but richly benefits those who hear it!

Family Chat:  When was the last time someone told you something sweet? Is there anyone in your life who could use a little extra encouragement?
