Description:
This position serves the ministry of Convoy of Hope by developing the business plans, strategy, and potential opportunities available to the organization in food security, both domestically and internationally. The overarching goal of this position is to ensure that Convoy of Hope has enough food with the proper nutritional value to provide to all programs.
Qualifications:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assists the organization in enlisting the support of the appropriate professionals, networks, and organizations in developing the production, storage, processing, and transportation of food necessary to reach the overall goals of Convoy of Hope.
2. Oversees and participates in researching viable long-term opportunities for Convoy of Hope to expand our food product capacity in domestic markets and other countries where Convoy has program centers.
3. Oversees the manufacture of products, ensuring production, performance, and quality standards are consistently met.
4. Creates and reviews production reports to ensure safety, quality, financial, and delivery goals and standards are met.
5. Ensures a healthy and safe working environment and compliance with federal and state regulations through collaboration with environmental, health, and safety staff.
6. Assists the Chief Operating Officer with long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, and new and advanced technology implementation.
7. Identifies and shares training opportunities for team members to build and improve skills.
8. Organizes working group management structure and teams for optimal, efficient operations.
9. Works with the Chief Operating Officer to develop an operating budget.
10. Delivers progress and production reports to executive team members as requested.
11. Supervises equipment purchase, maintenance, and layout.
12. Networks with external professionals in food production, storage, processing, and transportation, including those who assist in evaluating physical, political, and human capital inputs.
13. Builds relationships and networks related to private businesses, governmental agencies, producers, agriculture businesses, etc.
14. Works in concert with U.S. food industry companies and provides organizational context and recommendations.
15. Evaluates food products necessary to complete or complement those needed in Convoy of Hope programs.
16. Prepares a menu of viable opportunities through well-developed business plans for consideration by Convoy of Hope Executive Leadership.
17. Considers and recommends appropriate facilities for conducting hands-on teaching, research, and demonstration of critical factors contributing to the knowledge and ability to achieve food security and personal resiliency.
18. Forecasts, manages, and executes appropriate personnel shift schedules, production line, equipment maintenance and upkeep, quality control, production planning and inventory control, and cross-functional collaboration with other departments.
19. Collaborates in developing metrics to measure the food acquisition strategies’ effectiveness for Convoy of Hope.
20. Collaborates with the supply chain team to develop and continuously update forecasts for food available from internal versus external sources.
21. Fulfills all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Oversees and participates in manufacturing team members’ recruitment, hiring, and training.
2. Oversees schedules and assignments for the working group.
3. Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations.
4. As the operations continue to scale, recruits, develops, and leads a strong manufacturing team capable of driving results and meeting commitments.
5. Handles discipline and termination of team members as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Physical Requirements
1. Able to spend prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
2. Able to lift up to 35 pounds at times (infrequently).
3. Able to traverse manufacturing areas quickly.
4. Able to stand, bend, crawl, stretch, lie, and squat to maintain equipment.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. A bachelor’s degree in business, food science, food engineering, food technology, or a related field or a master’s degree or MBA in business administration, food science, or a related field is required.
2. Seven or more years of experience in leading extensive food processing and manufacturing initiatives is preferred.
3. Five or more years of people leadership or management is required.
4. Professional certifications in food safety — or the ability to attain them within the first three months of hire — are required.
5. Professional certifications in quality management or production management, such as Six Sigma/Lean Certification, are a plus.
6. Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration skills with academic and non-academic professionals, domestic and international rural farmers, and donors.
7. Exhibits understanding of both domestic and international agriculture needs and factors.
8. Exhibits understanding of government regulations related to commodities and food packaging.
9. Displays spiritual leadership to create a culture consistent with Convoy of Hope’s mission, vision, and values.
10. Attends and actively participates in Convoy of Hope At Home Week meetings and activities as a required responsibility to the organization and fellow team members.
11. Serves as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden, and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
12. Positively represents the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
13. As a Christian organization, Convoy of Hope believes it is critical that team members embrace the organization’s religious purposes for which it exists and not only agree with its Statement of Faith but demonstrate it in their lives on an ongoing basis.
