Description:
The Clinical Psychologist (CP) performs individual, families, couples, marital, group, and crisis intervention counseling to Cornerstone clientele who are experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Additionally, may be involved in crisis prevention or aiding with problems with adjustment after a major life event. The CP will also provide testing as appropriate for license and makes appropriate referrals as needed. The CP is also responsible for providing training for staff members in regard to implementing general and client-specific positive behavior supports. The CP will also act as a liaison between client and community resources as needed. Must have the ability to form and maintain effective counseling relationships with clients, to monitor client progress in the therapy process, and terminate the relationship in appropriate ways.
The CP must have excellent reasoning, analytical and communication skills. A strong attention to detail, patience and perseverance are paramount, but it is also important for the CP to be an empathetic, emotionally stable leader. The CP must be able to make treatment recommendations that are data and research based. In addition, have the ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Diagnosis or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment; interviews patients in clinics and other settings and studies medical and social case histories.
Observes patients in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence,
personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals about test results.
Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing various psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies.
Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment programs; accordingly, communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
Documents therapy in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records;
implements and adheres to policies which ensure patient confidentiality.
Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
May instruct and direct students serving psychological internships.
Provides psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within hospitals,
clinics, and other community-based agencies with regard to clients and/or patient care.
May develop and implement clinical research programs.
Provide personal assistance, emotional support, or other personal care, as they pertain to mental health.
Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with peers, clients, and other professionals.
Identify the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by analyzing behavior and data recorded by staff members. Utilize this information to make treatment recommendations.
Counsel individuals, groups, and/or families to help them understand problems, define goals, and develop realistic action plans.
Develop therapeutic treatment plans based on clients’ interests, needs, abilities, and any other mitigating factors.
Evaluate the results of counseling methods to determine the reliability and validity of treatments.
Select, administer, and interpret psychological tests to assess intelligence, aptitudes, abilities, or interests.
Provide therapeutic interventions for individuals in crisis.
Provide parent training on an as needed basis.
Collaborate with community psychiatric providers to ensure adequate psychiatric services are provided to clientele.
May develop and help implement individualized behavior support plans (BSP’s).
Aid the Director as needed with administrative responsibilities.
Ability to collaborate with other specialists to develop and implement treatment and intervention programs that clients can understand and comply with relevant guidelines.
Ability to provide psychological evaluations including autism specific evaluations.
Responsible for productivity of 80% of billable hours.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
Ability to work with and respect persons with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities.
Ability to work varied and flexible hours and to accept and adapt to changes in
assignments, methods, policies, etc.
Considerable knowledge of modern psychological principles and practices and other research based techniques as they apply to habilitation programming for those with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities.
Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current special education methodologies and
techniques.
Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client.
Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluation skills.
Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to assess mental status in clients and to develop individual treatment goals and plans.
Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation.
Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
Considerable knowledge of the behavioral sciences and allied disciplines involved in the
evaluation, care, and habilitation of persons with intellectual disabilities and other
developmental disabilities.
Ability to direct, coordinate, and supervise harmoniously the work of professional and nonprofessional employees.
Ability to assign, direct, and review the work of subordinate staff involved in the implementation of programs.
Ability to collect and analyze information in making decisions concerning treatment for each individual resident.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants,
subordinates, and other facility staff.
Ability to work as a direct contact staff with individuals served, to demonstrate needed
behavior for direct contact staff.
Ability to work in a busy clinic environment with flexibility to work varying hours

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate degree in Psychology, and completion of Pre-doctoral Clinical Internship; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Certification/Licensure State of MO Licensed Psychologist, or eligibility for MO licensure, as
documented by out-of-state licensure.
Ability to obtain and maintain licensure as a Licensed Psychologist. Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
